Family struggling with Lusito Land rape
The uncle of a woman who was raped at the Lusito Land Festival says they are struggling to cope.
JOHANNESBURG - The uncle of a woman who was raped at the Lusito Land Festival at the weekend says his daughter who accompanied her is traumatised and struggling to come to terms with what happened.
It was reported that the 20-year-old was attacked in a bathroom in a parking lot adjacent to Portuguese festival.
However, her uncle, who does not want to be named, says she was attacked inside the venue in a bathroom close to a parking lot for workers.
"I was led to believe that this was at a car park adjacent to Lusito, but that is incorrect. She did not leave the premises."
He says the newlywed attended the festival with her husband.
"She's not doing too well at the moment or the newly wed husband. They've only been married for two months. My daughter, who was with them, is not doing too well at all. She's in such a state at the moment."
South Africa has a high rate of rapes, official statistics suggesting a person is raped every four minutes.
