Kotze's psychologist sticks to her guns
A clinical psychologist who assessed Johan Kotze says he cannot be held accountable for his actions.
JOHANNESBURG - A clinical psychologist, who assessed the man dubbed the Modimolle Monster on Monday, admitted her report was based on a subjective version of the events.
Johan Kotze has admitted to mutilating and torturing his estranged wife Ina Bonnette in January 2012.
He denies he murdered her son or ordered his three co-accused to gang rape her.
Doctor Tertia Spangenberg faced a grilling from the state about her report in which she found Kotze could not be held accountable for his actions on the day Bonnette was attacked.
Judge Bert Bam asked how it was possible that Kotze could plead diminished capacity if he was at times aware of what was happening.
Spangenberg said his dissociation must be seen holistic and in context.
She said the dissociation started when Bonnette placed a vibrator in front of Kotze on the day of the attack and told him to use it on another woman.
Spangenberg could not say for certain when the condition stopped, but Kotze testified he realised he had done something wrong to Bonnette as soon as he left the house.
Last week, Kotze blamed his previous lawyer for discrepancies in his version of what happened when he attacked Bonnette.
Kotze's previous advocate in 2012 said his client would testify that he saw his three co-accused tie Bonnette up.
But Kotze now claims he never saw this and that the advocate acted without his instructions several times in 2012.
He also continued to insist he could not remember important details about the day of the incident when questioned by the state.
On Wednesday, Kotze's daughter attended court proceedings and said it was difficult listening to his testimony.
Kotze's daughter started crying when her father finished his second day on the stand.
Meanwhile, the three men who are accused of raping Bonnette claim they were forced to take part in the crime as Kotze threatened to kill them.
However, they maintain the pretended to rape Bonette while she said it did happen.
