SAA to hand over suspension investigation
SAA’s investigation into suspended acting CEO Vuyisile Kona will be handed over to government shortly.
JOHANNESBURG - South African Airways (SAA) on Friday said its report of an investigation into suspended acting CEO Vuyisile Kona will be handed to government by the end of the month.
The troubled airline on Friday confirmed businessman Monwabisi Kalawe is taking over as CEO and will implement the national carrier's turn-around strategy.
SAA also said it's doing everything it can to cut costs and return to being a profitable parastatal.
The airline's acting Chairperson Dudu Myeni wouldn't be drawn on her investigation against Vuyisile Kona.
It's safe to say it's progressing well.
She said a report into his suspension will be given to Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba.
"I would really like to say less because we don't want to prejudice the process."
Gigaba has welcomed the new CEO's appointment and urged the board to help him carry out his duties.
He said Kalawe has just the kind of business leadership experience SAA needs.
