JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo police said on Tuesday the three men accused of beating a woman with a belt and a rubber hammer while accusing her of shoplifting will apply for bail on Monday.

The attack, which happened in October last year, was captured on camera and reported to the police.

The video shows her pleading for help while being dragged around a small room at the back of a clothing store.

The police's Hangwani Mulaudzi said earlier this month three men and two women were arrested and charged.

He said the women were released on bail.

"They also played a role in the assault and mocked the senior woman. The victim identified them as the culprits and so we had to arrest them."

Mulaudzi said the remaining three were kept in custody because they had already been accused of a similar crime at the same shop.

He said the woman is recovering.

"She is fine but I am told she is still consulting a doctor because of the beating."
