JOHANNESBURG - One school pupil died on Saturday, while a hundred more were reported to be injured in a head-on collision between two buses near the Strydom Tunnel on the N4 in Limpopo.

One of the buses fell down an embankment and came to a standstill on the mountain side.

Paramedics confirmed that both vehicles were transporting school children.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

"Paramedics and rescue services had to use ropes to get down to some of the injured," said ER24's Werner Vermaak.

"At this stage one fatality has been confirmed.

"Paramedics have treated between 65 and 100 school kids."
