ASA board suspended
The board of Athletics South Africa has been placed under administration.
OLYMPIC HOUSE- The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) and its affiliates were on Saturday at the Olympic House attending a general meeting.
The meeting comes after tensions rose this week between the South African Football Association (Safa) and the Olympic body.
The football body has called for disciplinary action to be taken against Tubby Reddy, the CEO of Sascoc.
The Olympic affiliates were locked up for quite some time on Saturday afternoon discussing very serious issues on the table and more importantly trying to establish some outcomes.
Reddi said there was no tension between Sascoc and Safa, saying everyone was welcomed inside the building.
As far as Athletics South Africa (ASA) is concerned, they might be in a bit of trouble as the full board has been suspended and placed under administration.
The troubled sports body has been embroiled in vicious power battles recently as both president James Evans and vice president Hendrick Ramaala tussle for power.
Eyewitness News recently reported how six board members were suspended following their failure to abide by court rulings, but now the entire board has been suspended and placed under the watchful eye of administrator Zola Majavu.
"Sascoc is hereby suspending the individuals elected to the board of Athletics South Africa (ASA) for infringing the provisions of the constitutions of Sascoc, articles of Sascoc and is appointing an administrator to take over the running of the federation, pending the outcomes of the charges to be brought against the individual board members, "said Reddi.
Meanwhile, Powerboating SA on Saturday slammed Khaya Mjo, saying his comments have no bearing whatsoever on their organisation.
Mjo told Eyewitness News , he was still acting as the secretary general of the organisation and conducting business on their behalf.
Current president Christo de Jager has hit back, saying Mjo has no right to comment on any of their business.
"Khaya Mjo is no authority," said de Jager.
"His membership of Sascoc, as well as Powerboat South Africa, has been terminated.
"No suspension. It's been terminated.
"Khaya Mjo is a nothing in Powerboating."
