CAPE TOWN - The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) on Wednesday said nearly 90 percent of all grant beneficiaries were re-registered in the Western Cape.

At least 98,000 people still need to register their details before the end of April.

Sassa introduced a new biometric payment system in 2012 to help uncover fraudulent grant beneficiaries.

The agency's Waldie Terreblanche said, "We are concerned about the remaining 98,000 beneficiaries. They should come and re-register for before the end of April."

Nationally, Sassa revealed it had re-registered 19 million people out of an estimated 21 million beneficiaries.
