CAPE TOWN - Police are searching for two men in connection with an attack on a foreigner and her boyfriend on Signal Hill over the weekend.

The Norwegian foreign exchange student and her boyfriend were confronted by two armed men during the early hours of Saturday morning.

The couple were robbed after which the woman was raped.

Table Mountain Watch's Andre van Schalkwyk says the incident is of serious concern.

"We've haven't had something this serious in the area. I know at one stage it was sort of a no-go area and the city attempted to run a system up there with security at night, but that did not last for very long."

The police's Andre Traut says, "The circumstances surrounding the rape are being investigated. On Saturday at around 1am, a girl and a friend, who were sitting in a vehicle, were approached two armed men who then raped the girl."

Five robbery cases have been reported on the Table Mountain range since the beginning of this year.
