Lions win Ram Slam T20
The Highveld Lions beat the Nashua Titans by 30 runs and were crowned Ram Slam T20 champions.
JOHANNESBURG - The Highveld Lions are the 2013 Ram Slam T20 champions after they defeated the Nashua Titans by 30 runs at the Wanderers.
Quinton De Kock's firey 44 was well supported by Neil McKenzie's 39, guiding the Lions to 155/5 in their 20 overs, a total many thought was below par.
Despite a great start from Heino Kuhn and Henry Davids, the more experienced Titans outfit lost wickets at regular intervals.
Phangiso, Tanvir, Viljoen, Morris and Tahir all finished with two wickets a piece as the visitors were all bowled out in the 19th over for 125, ending the Lions' six year trophy drought.
Coach Geoff Toyana explained winning the title as a surreal moment.
"I still have to wake up because this is like a dream to me. I never thought we would play like this, but in the back of my mind I knew we had the talent and experience to do something special this year."
Toyana admits there were times he felt his team didn't have enough runs on the board.
"I thought we were poor on the field today, but the bowlers really bowled very well. All season they have been superb. I knew as we were taking wickets that we were going to pull through."
