ANC MP robbed at home
ANC MP Sue van der Merwe was left unconscious after a robbery at her Rondebosch home.
CAPE TOWN - Police are investigating a home invasion allegedly involving a senior ANC Member of Parliament (MP).
Police say the MP lost consciousness while she was being strangled her but her brother says that is not true.
The suspects fled the scene when her son returned home.
Bank cards were reported missing.
The ANC's Moloto Mothapo says it appears to be a random act of criminality.
"We are hopeful and confident that the police will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the culprits are brought to book."
Van der Merwe, who is back home, is expected back in Parliament soon.
Van der Merwe previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, but is now just an ANC MP.
