Manuel under fire for apartheid comments
Nehawu says Minister Trevor Manuel is incorrect for saying officials must not blame apartheid.
JOHANNESBURG - Planning Minister Trevor Manuel has come under fire after he raised concerns about the civil service this week.
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) said the minister raised valid points about the need to improve service delivery, but he was not completely honest.
This after Manuel criticised ANC members in the civil service for showing loyalty to the ruling party.
He said it was time for government to start taking responsibility for its actions and stop blaming apartheid.
Nehawu spokesperson Sizwe Pamla said Manuel was disingenuous.
"He must refrain from calling out ANC card-carrying members and pointing at them as points of incompetence in the public service because that is nonsensical. He is disingenuous by saying we mustn't blame apartheid. We blame apartheid."
