SA referees to try out for World Cup
South African referees could be among the match officials in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
JOHANNESBURG - Two South African match officials Daniel Bennett and Zakhele Siwela could be representing South Africa in 2014's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The two will be attending FIFA's seminar in Casablanca later in April where they will be evaluated for the tournament along with other top referees from the continent.
South African Football Association's Referee Head Adeel Carelse says they are positive that both officials will make the cut.
"In addition to that, Daniel received an invitation to take part in the last FIFA evaluation to be done in Brazil in May so his chances are quite good."
Carelse says the South African football body is very proud of the two officials.
"The selection was done purely by the Confederation of African Football as well as FIFA. Since 1998 we've consistently produced the referees that officiated either at the CAF Championship or at the World Cup and it's a proud record."
