Madiba's condition "non-threatening"
Heart surgeon Hamid Munir said the condition is easy to treat.
JOHANNESBURG - The condition former president Nelson Mandela is this week being treated for has been described as non-threatening by a heart surgeon.
The 94-year-old Madiba was admitted to a medical facility on Wednesday and is undergoing treatment for a pleural effusion caused by pneumonia.
The presidency said Madiba is currently “comfortable and able to breathe easily”.
Heart surgeon Hamid Munir said the condition is usually easy to treat.
“The first thing is to establish the cause.
“Generally speaking the common cause in our condition are pneumonia, tuberculosis and some kind of cancers.”
