CAPE TOWN - Many Capetonians are rushing to do some last minute shopping ahead of Easter celebrations.

Dozens of last minute shoppers, mostly women, queued outside a supermarket in the central business district anxiously waiting for its doors to open.

Some people told Eyewitness News they are stocking up on Easter eggs for their grandchildren and hot cross buns for themselves.

However one woman said she could not only think of herself so she used the supermarket's facilities to send money to relatives in the Eastern Cape.

"I'm here today to send money home so that my family can celebrate Easter in style."

Mitchells Plain resident, Geraldine Arendse, said she was looking forward to spending time with her family.

"I'm going to buy some luxuries, Easter eggs and few groceries."

Others complained they had to squeeze shopping in between work and church duties.

Meanwhile, President Jacob Zuma has wished Christians a happy Easter and urged those travelling to be safe on the roads.
