'It's up to SA to bring about change'
Mamphela Ramphele tells Alexandra residents it is SA people who need to bring about change.
JOHANNESBURG - It is up to South Africans and not the national development plan to bring about change, anti-apartheid activist Mamphela Ramphele said on Wednesday.
Ramphele, who launched Agang as a political platform last month, on Wednesday held discussions with residents in Alexandra township in northern Johannesburg.
She told the community, which raised concerns about unemployment, education, housing and health, not to give up.
Ramphele has also encouraged a healthy debate around the National Development Plan, which is government's development blueprint.
"We can't simply look at the National Development Plan as a new by-law in South Africa. Whoever is contesting the 2014 elections should not sell you the National Development Plan. It's a framework; they must give you the beef."
