Free State car accident claims 8 lives

Eight people have died and 22 others injured after two taxis and a car collided in the Free State.

FREE STATE - Police are investigating the cause of a major accident in the Free State which left eight people dead and 22 others injured on Thursday.

Paramedics said three vehicles collided on the R70 between Senekal and Steynrus.

Five people are in a critical condition.

ER24's spokesperson Derrick Banks said, "Two taxis and a light vehicle had a collision.

"Patients were stabilised and sent to nearby hospitals for treatment."
