Metro cop released on bail
A Western Cape metro cop accused of soliciting bribes has been released on bail.
CAPE TOWN - A Western Cape traffic official accused of corruption was released on bail in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Two traffic officials were arrested earlier this week after members of the public came forward alleging that the two officers were soliciting bribes from motorists.
The other suspect will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said corrupt officials will not be tolerated.
"Officials must not take any form of bribes on the road. We will deal with any corrupt officer."
Africa said this should be a warning to other law enforcers who accept bribes from the public.
"We don't have a place for corrupt officers in our department. We are here to serve the public."
