'Women must take the lead in Brics'
The International Relations Minister says women must claim their space within Brics.
JOHANNESBURG - International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane on Saturday said it is time for women to claim leadership positions in the Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (Brics) partnership.
The five emerging nations will meet in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, from Tuesday to discuss the establishment of a development bank to rival western-dominated financial institutions.
Mashabane said it is time for women's organisations to take the lead.
"We are calling upon women to claim their space as we move to the Ethekwini declaration and the action plan that will take us into the next 13 months."
