JOHANNEDBURG - The Gauteng legislature's integrity commission will be asked to investigate a trip by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane to Milan in Italy where she spent R30, 000 in one day.

Mokonyane admitted to spending the money in reply to a legislature question last week but claims it was all spent in accordance with the ministerial handbook, which makes provision for official meetings.

It is believed Mokonyane spent the money on fancy restaurants and at shopping centres.

The Democratic Alliance (DA)'s Jack Bloom said the trip wreaks of wasteful expenditure.

"We want to know who exactly was invited to these lavish lunches and dinners at these restaurants and what exactly did the premier buy at this very high-class department store. How can it all be justified? Blowing R30, 000 is a lot of money."
