JOHANNESBURG - An East Rand vendor accused of murdering a metro police officer is expected to return to court on Friday.

The 48-year-old officer was with his bylaw enforcement team on Sunday when he was allegedly punched by the vendor who refused to let police take his caravan away.

The incident comes just weeks after Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia died in police custody after refusing to move his taxi, which he had parked illegally.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD)'s Wilfred Kgosago said, "The case has been remanded to 22 March. He will remain in custody until his appearance on Friday."
