CAPE TOWN - Kaizer Chiefs says it will wait to hear from the South African Football Association (Safa) to find out why was Tsepo Masilela was withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad to face the Central African Republic on Saturday.

Bafana coach Gordon Igesund called up Tebogo Langerman of Mamelodi Sundowns as Masilela's replacement due to a knee injury.

Masilela played in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) despite nursing a knee injury he picked up in June.

The Amakhosi's Vina Maphosa says the niggling knee condition has never impacted Masilela's match-fitness.

"We are monitoring him continuously in terms of the knee injury but he's not on our injury list."

Maphosa says when the team left Masilela "at the airport as he was on his way to Bafana Bafana."

He says: "We have to establish what happened - perhaps they uncovered something regarding his fitness."

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates fullback Siyabonga Sangweni has also been withdrawn from the national squad due to an injury.

His replacement is yet to be announced.

The World Cup qualifier starts at 8:15pm.
