Angler attacked by 1.5 metre shark
An angler is being treated in hospital after he was attacked by a shark.
HERMANUS - A 30-year-old angler is recovering in hospital after being attacked by a 1.5 metre ragged tooth shark in Hermanus in the Western Cape on Saturday.
Kobus Koeberg caught the shark in a 'tag and release' surf angling competition in De Mond on Saturday.
Koeberg was in the process of measuring and releasing the shark in shallow surf when a wave knocked him over.
The shark then bit him.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the angler sustained injuries to his left calf and Achillies heel.
"He was airlifted to hospital for further treatment where he is undergoing surgery to repair his damaged tendons."
