ANC might disband ANCYL NEC
The ANC wants to break up the NEC allegedly because of in-fighting.
JOHANNESBURG - There was no official statement, announcing that the African National Congress Youth League's (ANCYL) National Executive Committee (NEC) was disbanded on Sunday but members of the ruling party and former members of the league have taken to Twitter to confirm.
The NEC of the youth league was allegedly disbanded by its parent body on Sunday afternoon, because of political in-fighting within the league.
Attempts to contact African National Congress (ANC) spokespeople, members of the National Executive for the parent party, the youth league and even the presidency have proven futile on Sunday, with no official confirmation that the league's NEC is no more.
But the ANC's Clayson Monyela confirmed the dissolution on Twitter, along with former youth league spokesperson, Floyd Shivambu.
Eyewitness News understands that issues within the league's leadership led to the ANC pushing for a new executive committee in the league.
Meanwhile, an interim NEC is expected to be announced shortly as the process to elect a new leadership begins.
