UDM undecided on opposition alliance
The leader of the UDM says his party has not made any final decisions on forming an opposition alliance.
CAPE TOWN - United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader Bantu Holomisa on Monday said the party was still consulting broadly about forming an opposition alliance.
The UDM proposed that political parties contest the 2014 general elections under a single banner by establishing an umbrella body.
The party has been in talks with Congress of the People (Cope) and the Freedom Front Plus (VF+).
Holomisa said it was still early days.
"The consultation we're involved in is very broad. It involves in-house political parties but also involves political parties and civil societies outside parliament."
Holomisa formed the UDM in 1999 after breaking away from the ANC.
