Regression in positive audit outcomes
Auditor-General Terrence Nombembe says government must tighten financial controls.
PRETORIA - Auditor-General Terrence Nombembe on Tuesday said there was a regression in positive audit outcomes and called for greater focus to be placed on government administration.
He was speaking at the release of the recent national and provincial government audit outcomes.
The auditor-general found less than a quarter of departments received clean audits for the 2011/2012 financial year.
At least 50 of the departments failed to maintain their clean audits.
Nombembe said government must tighten financial control.
"We do need to sustain the way in which we manage the administration of government. We are talking here of a report that shows regression."
He said supply chain management and the handling of tenders remained a problem.
"If things are done in a manner that is inconsistent with the rule of law, then it renders a transaction irregular."
