Teen pleads not guilty in farm murder case
A 16-year-old accused of three murders in Griekwastad pleaded not guilty on Monday.
CAPE TOWN - A teenage boy accused of killing three members of the same family in the Northern Cape on Monday pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The trial of the 16-year-old got underway in the Northern Cape High Court.
The teenager was arrested for the murders of Deon Steenkamp (44) his wife Christelle (43) and their daughter Marthella (14) who were shot dead on the family's farm Naauwhoek on April 6.
Court proceedings started with applications being filed by various media houses to be allowed inside the courtroom.
The accused is a minor and under law, journalists are not usually allowed in courtroom.
However, some media houses have now been granted permission to be present.
Apart from three murder counts, he will also face a charge of rape and defeating the ends of justice.
It is alleged he sexually assaulted Marthella.
The state has now called its first witness, a crime scene expert.
