No plans to shut down RTMC - Chikunga
Deputy Transport Minister Sindi Chikunga says there RTMC will not close down.
CAPE TOWN - Deputy Transport Minister Sindi Chikunga on Monday denied a recommendation was sent to President Jacob Zuma to have the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) shutdown.
Claims emerged last week of the corporation's imminent closure.
Last week, Western Cape Transport MEC Robin Carlisle indicated the RTMC was to be shutdown.
However, there have been denials about this from both the national Transport Department and the RTMC.
Chakunga said she was not aware of any recommendations from her provincial counterparts suggesting the RTMC needs to be shutdown.
"For now we have not received any memorandum."
The corporation has been facing financial problems for some time and still does not have a permanent head.
