CAPE TOWN - South African teams had their best weekend of the Super Rugby season with a hat-trick of victories over New Zealand opposition.

The Cheetahs were up first and delivered the upset of the weekend by beating the Highlanders at Rugby Park.

Cheetahs scrumhalf Sarel Pretorious was in fine form scoring twice to lead the Cheetahs to a 36-19 win.

It is the Cheetahs' biggest win in New Zealand since the early days of Super Rugby, when still playing as the Free State, they defeated the Highlanders 49 -18 in Dunedin.

The Stormers saw off the Chiefs in a tightly contested match in Newlands, Cape Town.

Andries Bekker led the line out and a stubborn defence eventually saw the Stormers triumphing 36-34 against the defending champions.

It was then the turn of the Bulls to do South African fans proud when they traveled to Auckland to take on the Blues.

The men from Loftus' clinical mauling and effective phase play saw the Blues chasing shadows for the majority of the first half.

The Blues clawed themselves back into the contest thanks to some individual brilliance from Rene Ranger.

But Morné Steyn's accurate boot proved to be the difference between the sides and the Bulls finished 28-21 winners.
