NCC to discuss meat saga with scientists
The NCC will meet with the University of Stellenbosch to discuss the meat labeling scandal.
CAPE TOWN - The National Consumer Commission wants to meet with scientists from Stellenbosch University to discuss their findings on the meat labeling scandal.
Two recent studies have found that some deli meats, burger patties and biltong contained traces of donkey, water buffalo and even kangaroo which were not declared on the labels.
Supermarket Pick 'n Pay said it will comment this coming week about whether or not it will be taking action against suppliers.
Acting National Consumer Commissioner Ebrahim Mohamed said, "We have received the report from the scientists which our investigators say is rather technical. We will seek a meeting with the scientists to explain matters."
