CAPE TOWN - The National Transport Department on Wednesday refuted claims the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has been dissolved.
Western Cape Transport MEC Robin Carlisle made the claims earlier today.
He cited corruption within the organisation as one of the reasons for its closure.
"The people who drafted the law, they created an unworkable statutory animal. It has have been fraught with disaster and corruption."
But spokesperson for the Transport Department, Tiyani Rikhotso, denied the claims.
He said only Cabinet has the power to shut down the corporation.
"The Road Traffic Management Corporation remains operational as an agency in government. No decision has been taken yet on the future of the RTMC.
"As is the case with all state agencies, only Cabinet can take a decision on [its] future."
