New MyCiTi bus routes launched
The new MyCiTi bus routes to Walmer Estate, Woodstock and Salt River have finally been launched.
CAPE TOWN - The new MyCiTi bus routes to Walmer Estate, Woodstock and Salt River have finally been launched following months of delays.
Buses were meant to take to the roads in December, but there were objections to the city's licence applications for the routes.
Those objections were dismissed on Saturday.
The vehicles are fitted with a camera surveillance system and MyConnect card readers.
Transport Mayoral Committee Member Brett Herron is both relieved and happy the new routes have finally been launched.
He says the small modern buses are perfect for manoeuvring through the narrow roads of Woodstock.
It costs more than R5 to travel from the Civic Centre to Salt River.
Buses start operating from 5:30am and during peak-hours, one can expect a bus every 20 minutes.
MyCiTi is expected to be introduced in Mitchells Plain and Khayelitsha in 2014.
