Swallows eyeing top eight

The Dube Birds have to beat Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night in order to be in the PSL top eight.

The Dube Birds have to beat Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night in order to be in the PSL top eight.

JOHANNESBURG - Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques said a win for them against Orlando Pirates is a must if they are to improve on their log standing.

Swallows are 12th on the log and need all three points to move up to eighth position on the Premier Soccer League (PSL) table.

Pirates on the other hand are second on the log, with a game in hand.

They need maximum points to be log leaders.

Marques said there are more than just the points at stake.

"We are three points away from a top eight position, that's how close it is. There's a lot to play for. Besides the three points which are like gold, there's the pride of this club, there's the pride of our players and there's the pride of our supporters".

Swallows will be buoyed by Pirates' embarrassing defeat to Maluti FET this weekend in the Nedbank Cup, but will have to be careful not to be complacent against the Buccaneers.

The Bucs lost 4-1 to Maluti on Saturday.

Swallows will play Pirates at the Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday.

Kickoff is at 7:30pm.
