The Kings expect 18-year-old Sergeal Petersen to shine in his first season of Super Rugby.

CAPE TOWN - Southern Kings academy manager Robbie Kempson on Tuesday expressed confidence in rising star Sergeal Petersen.

He believes the 18-year-old will be a standout performer.

"Sergeal Petersen will definitely be on a few billboards in years to come. Now that we've managed to keep one or two [players] within the Eastern, it's nice to see that they can produce the goods."

Petersen scored two tries in his side's 22-10 win over the Western Force on Saturday.

The former Springbok prop is well aware that it if the Kings are relegated, it will be difficult to keep a player like Petersen in the Eastern Cape.

"He's got a very solid head on his young shoulders and he has taken the step up and there are others not only with us, but countrywide, who can make that step up given the opportunity."

The Kings will play host to the Sharks in two weeks.

The team was promoted to Super Rugby in 2012.
