NW MEC arrested for murder

NORTH WEST - North West Local Government MEC China Dodovu has been arrested in connection with the murder of an ANC regional secretary.

Dodovu is the eighth person taken into custody in connection with the murder of Obuti Chika.

The Kenneth Kaunda regional secretary was shot at point-blank range in his driveway in Klerksdorp over December.

Chika later died in hospital.

Community member Jeffrey Letuka, North West provincial ANCYL chairperson Papiki Baboile, ward secretary Paul Molomonyane, councillor Itumeleng Molebatsi, municipal worker William Malefo and taxi driver Kgotso Kali have also been arrested in connection with the murder.

North West ANC spokesperson Kenny Moroleng called for calm following Dodovu's arrest.

"The ANC strongly believes the legal process must run its course without impediment. We believe all suspects are presumed innocent until found guilty."
