JOHANNESBURG - Police in Polokwane arrested five suspected rhino poachers who were allegedly conspiring to hit the Kruger National Park on Tuesday night.

Police spotted the group of men in a vehicle en route to the park.

They recovered a hunting rifle, silencer, a butcher's knife and an axe.

Police spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said investigators were working to establish whether the men are part of a larger syndicate.

"We are trying to link with them other rhino poaching crimes. We are planning to charge them with the intention of trying to poach."

The five suspects were expected to appear in court tomorrow.
