KHAYELITSHA - The Western Cape Education Department on Tuesday praised a Khayelitsha school for improving on its literacy and numeracy rates.

The department conducts systematic testing on grade 3, 6 and 9 pupils annually, to check the literacy and numeracy levels of learners in the province.

On Tuesday, officials released the 2012 figures, which show an improvement in Mathematics and language subjects.

Western Cape Education MEC Donald Grant visited Nkazimulo Primary School earlier on Tuesday, to commend them on their achievements.

Grant said the key to the school's success is team work.

"This is a school where best practice has been followed in all respects. There's incredible attitude shift and team work."

The MEC added the school had a multilevel buy-in from parents, teachers and pupils alike.
