BMW SA recalls 52,000 cars
BMW SA says there might be a problem with electrical cables on some models.
JOHANNESBURG - BMW South Africa on Tuesday said it was recalling around 52,000 vehicles in the country, as part of an international recall of around 500,000 vehicles.
Affected models include previous generations of the 1 Series, 3 Series, the Z4 and X1 models.
Only petrol-engine cars are affected.
BMW spokesperson Guy Kilfoil said the problem appeared to revolve around an electrical cable to the distributor.
"A connector on this cable can vibrate which can cause some frictional erosion which impairs electrical supply to the vehicle. That normally happens during parking and then one won't be able to restart the car."
