JOHANNESBURG - Police on Monday said a 30-year-old man had confessed to killing Atlantis teenager Jo-Anne van Schalkwyk.

The 18 year-old's body was found in a bush in Beacon Hill last week.

Police could not confirm if the girl had been raped, but said investigations were ongoing.

Van Schalkwyk's murder follows the rape and killings of Kraaifontein teen Ge-Audry Green and 17-year-old Anene Booysen in Bredasdorp.

Green's decomposed body was found stuffed in a drawer under a neighbour's bed, while Booysen was raped, mutilated and left for dead at a construction site.

Cape Town police spokesperson Thembinkosi Kinana said the accused was being held in custody and that a report on his alleged confession was handed-over to them.

Meanwhile, Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato visited Atlantis, and learnt residents had ignored van Schalkwyk's cries before she was killed.

"The lady was screaming for quite a long period of time."

The alleged murderer is set to face a magistrate on Monday.
