Woman murdered in Atlantis
Cape Town police confirmed that another young woman has been murdered in Atlantis.
ATLANTIS - Cape Town police on Monday confirmed that another young woman has been murdered in Atlantis.
Officials said the 20-year-old was stabbed to death in the West Coast town on Monday.
This comes nearly a week after the brutal murder of 18-year-old Jo-Anne van Schalkwyk, whose alleged killer confessed to the crime.
Police said they were investigating whether Jo-Anne was raped before being murdered.
Atlantis ward councillor Barbara Ras said she visited the scene of the latest killing.
"She was stabbed by her boyfriend, who was out on parole."
The latest murder also follows the rape and murder of Kraaifontein teen Ge-Audrey Green and 17-year-old Anene Booysen from Bredasdorp.
POLICE INVESTIGATING OTHER CASES
In a separate case in the Blue Downs Magistrate's Court last week, Johannes de Jager appeared in court for the murder and mutilation of 16-year-old Charmaine Mare.
The case was postponed.
De Jager was arrested in January, shortly after Mare's body was found in an open field in Kraaifontein.
Her limbs had been cut off and her body was badly burnt.
De Jager had previously been charged with murder, but that case was withdrawn because certain witnesses were unavailable at the time.
Meanwhile, a man arrested for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in the Zamdela township in the Free State will remain behind bars until his formal bail application at the end of the month.
Police spokesperson Peter Kareli said the man appeared in court for the first time last week.
"A 10-year-old girl was playing on the streets when a 46-year-old neighbour called her to say she must come see something in the house."
