Four Diepsloot cops go on trial for murder
The murder trial of four police officers accused of killing a Diepsloot man begins on Wednesday.
JOHANNESBURG - The murder trial of four police officers accused of killing a Diepsloot man begins on Wednesday, in the Atteridgeville Regional Court, north of Pretoria.
The three constables and captain who allegedly murdered 28-year-old Richard Mahlangu in 2012 were only dismissed from the police service a week ago, following a disciplinary hearing.
Mahlangu was allegedly arrested at his home in Diepsloot in February last year, during the early hours of the morning.
It is alleged he was then assaulted and placed on the back of an open police bakkie.
Mahlangu's body was found lying in the parking area of the Diepsloot Police Station a few hours later.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate, which probed the incident, on Tuesday said two other men were also assaulted by the same officers.
The motive behind the incident remains unknown.
