Service delivery protest erupts in Soweto
Braamfischerville residents are calling on the local mayor to address their service delivery grievances.
JOHANNESBURG - Hundreds of protestors in Braamfischerville in Soweto demanded the local mayor address their service delivery issues on Wednesday.
Residents blocked Unity Road during the protest.
The community is calling for school upgrades and new roads, among other things.
Soweto police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said there was a strong police presence.
"We have the [Johannesburg Metro Police] and the South African Police Service and some cops to gather information [in the area]."
It was unclear if any representatives of the local municipality would receive the protestors' memorandum.
