Samwu to protest against 'corrupt' officials
Samwu is planning to march against alleged corruption and maladministration by Tshwane officials.
PRETORIA - Eyewitness News understands the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) is planning to march to its Tshwane municipal headquarters this week against corruption and maladministration.
Late last year, Cosatu-affiliated unions handed over a memorandum calling for action to be taken against officials guilty of those offences.
The Tshwane metro police's Isaac Mahamba on Tuesday confirmed Samwu had applied to stage their march.
A senior Samwu official in the metro police told Eyewitness News hundreds of members were expected to join the demonstration.
The officers are calling for the city to act on several reports already submitted to city management, including an internal investigation into the pound and a special investigating unit probe.
Municipal management has been in possession of the documents for several months.
