Firefighters have brought several blazes under control in Cape Town.
MAITLAND - Cape Town firefighters have managed to extinguish a blaze which broke out at a cereal factory.
The fire swept throughout the business premises during the early hours of Sunday morning and the fire service's spokesperson Theo Layne said mop up operations were underway.
"At around 4:30 this morning we responded to a call at alpen foods, where the building was alight, as well as 20 tonnes of cereal grain."
A fire also broke out at a storage warehouse in Philadelphia outside Cape Town on Saturday night.
No injuries were reported in this fire and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
Meanwhile three separate shack fires in the Western Cape have displaced at least eight people.
Cape Town Disaster Risk Management's Wilfred Solomons Johannes said no injuries were reported in all of the incidents.
He also said officials responded to one blaze in Philippi on Saturday night, and two others in Gugulethu in the early hours of Sunday morning.
"The city's disaster response teams will be assisting the victims throughout the day."
The authorities will probe the causes of all the fires.
