Premier Cassel Mathale may be replaced
Cassel Mathale might be replaced due to ‘ill leadership’ by controversial Education MEC Dickson Masemola.
JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News understands Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale may be replaced by a member of his current cabinet.
Insiders on Thursday said Mathale will face the chop because the African National Congress (ANC) in the province was falling apart under his leadership.
However, his friends said it is because he did not support President Jacob Zuma at the ANC's Mangaung conference.
Controversial Limpopo Education MEC Dickson Masemola is next in line for the premiership when the ANC decides to fire Mathale.
Three female leaders in the province are also on the list: Provincial Legislature's Rosina Semenya, Arts and Culture MEC Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba, and Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi.
They have all been elected to the ANC's National Executive Committee in Mangaung.
The ANC said it was waiting for a report from the provincial leadership about the complaints from ANC members in the province before any changes are announced.
'ANC LIMPOPO CAUSED DIVISION'
Before Mangaung, Limpopo branch members complained to the ANC's National Working Committee that leaders were overlooking the party's rules and causing division within party ranks.
The national government took over the administration of five departments in Limpopo in December 2011, as officials failed to manage their allocated budgets.
The move by the ANC has been described by some as a witch hunt to dethrone those who were against Zuma's leadership in Mangaung.
