CAPE TOWN - The ANC Youth League (ANCYL)'s National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided to reinstate Pule Mabe as treasurer, the League's acting president Ronald Lamola revealed on Monday.

In 2012, Mabe was removed from his post by the NEC amid claims he was campaigning for President Jacob Zuma ahead of the ANC's Mangaung conference.

At the time, the ANCYL was lobbying for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to take over the position of ANC president.

Following its failed campaign for change, the League has now committed itself to supporting Zuma.

Mabe was elected to the ANC's NEC at that gathering.

Lamola said they made their decision to reinstate Mabe after "difficult discussions".

"The decision that we took [in 2012] was not based on the constitution and that's why we decided to review it [the earlier decision]."

On Saturday, the League's NEC met for its first post-Mangaung sitting.
