CAPE TOWN - The ANC in the Northern Cape on Friday dismissed speculation that Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson may be considered to take over the premiership of the province.

The Deputy Minister Mineral Resources Minister Godfrey Oliphant's name has also been bandied about as a possible replacement for Hazel Jenkins, who is very ill.

Jenkins collapsed during her State of the Province address in February.

The provincial Education MEC is currently the acting premier.

ANC Northern Cape secretary Zamani Saul said, "The provincial executive committee will be requested to submit three names to the national executive committee, in an order of preference."
