Gauteng police make ‘major breakthrough’
Two men linked to a variety of crimes in Gauteng have been arrested in Alexandra.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police on Wednesday described the arrest of two men as a "major breakthrough" in the fight against in the province.
On Tuesday, police and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers responded to a reported hijacking in Midrand.
A few hours later, officers arrested the pair in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
According to police, a third suspect escaped and a manhunt is now underway to find him.
The police's Lungelo Dlamini said the gang was wanted for several violent crimes.
"They have been linked to house robberies in Honeydew and Sandringham."
The two men also have alleged links to an armed robbery in Vanderbijlpark and a business burglary in Randburg.
The suspects were also wanted for possession of an unlicenced firearm and stolen property.
The suspects are also linked to crimes in Alexandra, Diepkloof and Sebenza.
They will be appearing in the Alexandra Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
