Santaco excluded from Afcon transport plans

Minibus taxi bosses want answers after being left out of Afcon's transport plans.

Taxi industry heavyweights are feeling sidelined by the African Cup of Nations' organising committee.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) said the industry's exclusion from the African Cup of Nations' transport plans reflects a total disregard for the industry.

Together with the national taxi council and the greater Johannesburg regional taxi council, the association said it wanted answers about why the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chose to exclude them.

Other public transport modes such as trains and buses have signed a contract with the LOC to ferry soccer fans to the tournament which kicks off this Saturday.

Santaco's Philip Taaibosch said," There is this continuous undermining and disregard of the presence of the industry as a public transport service provider."

Taaibosch also said this undermining is still rife within the South African Football Association.
