Cape Town to boom in February

The Mother City’s tourism sector is in high spirits after the influx of tourists over the festive season.

CAPE TOWN - While the festive season brought a new record of domestic tourists to Cape Town, the season for international tourism is has just begun.

The number of international tourists visiting Cape Town is expected to pick up in February.

Cape Town Tourism on Tuesday released the figures for the festive season.

Table Mountain alone received 119,000 visitors.

Other major attractions include Kirstenbosch Gardens and the V&A Waterfront.

CEO of Cape Town Tourism Mariette du Toit-Helmbold said, "We're also very encouraged to see significant growth in the amount of new arrivals from markets like India and China exploring our destination. There's a lot of opportunity for us to pursue in new markets while we sustain our presence in traditional markets."

She said she hopes that Cape Town's popularity as a tourist destination continues to grow.

"We need to work really hard and continue the effort to promote Cape Town as a year-round destination and encourage visitors to travel out of the peak season so we can extent our season all year round."
