Rheenendal bus crash inquiry to begin
An inquest into the Rheenendal school bus crash will begin in a Knysna court on Monday.
CAPE TOWN - An inquest into the Rheenendal school bus crash will begin in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The accident claimed the lives of 14 children and their bus driver in August 2011.
The vehicle they were travelling in veered off the road and plunged into a river.
Over the next few days, witnesses will be called to the stand for cross-examination.
Accident investigation reports will also be scrutinised.
The matter is on the roll to find out, among others, what caused the accident and the courts must then decide who should be held responsible.
So far, no one has been prosecuted.
Several of the victims' families had showed up for day one of the proceedings.
The lawyer representing most of the families, Jerald Andrews, said in a nutshell, all they wanted to know was what happened and who to blame.
